DEMING \u2013 Motorists traveling through Luna County and between Deming and Hatch should prepare for lane closures, pilot-car operations and temporary delays during the week of September 6 through September 13.<\/p>\n
Hasse Contracting Company will continue pavement-preservation work on NM 26 from mile marker 0 at US 180 in Deming toward mile marker 46 in Hatch. Motorists should expect daytime lane closures and a pilot car directing traffic through the work zone in both directions.<\/p>\n
Crews are completing crack sealing, fog sealing and the installation of centerline rumble strips. The rumble strips are part of the New Mexico Department of Transportation\u2019s Target Zero initiative and are designed to alert inattentive motorists who drift across the centerline, helping reduce head-on and crossover crashes.<\/p>\n
Work on NM 26 is scheduled from 6:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the possibility of weekend work as needed.<\/p>\n
NMDOT crews will also continue chip-seal operations on roadways in the Deming area. Work locations include various Interstate 10 frontage roads near Akela and NM 418, also known as the Old Lordsburg Highway, between mileposts 10 and 12.<\/p>\n
Drivers should expect flagging personnel, pilot vehicles and temporary stops in these areas. Crews are currently applying fog seal and will conduct brooming during and after the sealing process.<\/p>\n
Loose gravel may remain on the roadway for several days following treatment. Center striping will also be temporarily absent in active work zones until the work is completed.<\/p>\n
Chip-seal operations are scheduled from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n
Motorists are asked to slow down, follow posted signs and use extreme caution around construction workers and heavy equipment. Double fines for speeding may be imposed in active work zones. Construction schedules and traffic conditions are subject to change without notice.<\/p>\n
No specific road projects in Grant County, Silver City or Hidalgo County were included in this week\u2019s District One traffic report.<\/p>\n
