DEMING – A group of young community members traded their free time for service recently, helping clean and beautify one of Deming\u2019s historic resting places while learning valuable lessons about responsibility and respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Deming Police Department announced the official selection of participants for its 2026 Explorer Program, a youth development initiative designed to give young people hands-on exposure to careers in law enforcement while strengthening leadership and community values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of their early service projects, members of the Explorer program recently completed a cleanup effort at Mountain View Cemetery, where they removed debris including pinecones, pine needles, and other materials that had accumulated across the grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Program leaders said the project was about more than simply cleaning the area. It was also an opportunity to teach respect for community history and compassion for families who visit loved ones buried at the cemetery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City officials praised the young volunteers for their dedication and maturity during the cleanup effort, noting that the group carefully worked around gravesites and flowers while restoring the grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Explorer Program is open to youth ages 12 to 17 and focuses on leadership development, discipline, teamwork, and community involvement. Participants receive structured training and mentorship from law enforcement professionals while learning about the responsibilities and expectations of public service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Program organizers say the young volunteers represent the future of the community and demonstrate that service, respect, and teamwork remain strong values among Deming\u2019s youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Deming Police Department extended congratulations to the 2026 Explorer participants and expressed confidence that their commitment to service will continue to make a positive impact throughout the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
