DEMING – The Deming Police Department will increase patrols and enforcement throughout the community during this weekend’s Great American Duck Races and related events.
Officers will be visible at the Duck Races, carnival, parade, Gus Macker basketball tournament, softball tournaments and other event locations, according to a public safety announcement from Chief of Police Sergio Lara. Police will also patrol parking areas, surrounding streets and high-traffic locations.
The department said its priority is to provide a safe, family-friendly environment for residents, visitors, athletes, vendors and event participants. Enforcement will focus on impaired driving, speeding, reckless driving, traffic violations, disorderly conduct, fighting, underage drinking, alcohol-related violations, illegal parking, blocked driveways, fire lanes, handicap spaces, weapons violations, theft, vandalism and other criminal activity.
Motorists should expect increased pedestrian traffic, temporary traffic controls, parking restrictions and possible delays near event locations. Drivers are asked to slow down, follow officer directions, use designated parking areas and never drive impaired.
“We want everyone to enjoy the weekend safely,” Lara said in the announcement. Officers will be available throughout the community to assist the public, address safety concerns and take enforcement action when needed.
