DEMING – Rodeo competition, live music and family activities drew residents and visitors to the Deming Pro Rodeo, held September 10 through 12 by the City of Deming and Midpoint Equine.
Competitors took part in events presented by the United Professional Rodeo Association and the National Senior Pro Rodeo, including barrel racing, bronc riding, bull riding and team roping. Food vendors served guests throughout the weekend, and each evening ended with live entertainment.
On the final day, the city and Play Sharity offered craft stations and small prizes for children. Midpoint Equine provided pony rides and a petting zoo. “It was good to see so many kids participating. I thought it was a great event,” said Mary Corral, the city’s interim community service director.
Thursday’s winners included Chris Delton in bareback riding, Billy Delong in saddle bronc riding, Sarah Winters in barrel racing and breakaway roping, Shilo Young in bull riding, and Marcos Casaus in ranch bronc riding. Dalton Chavez and Cameron Church won team roping, while Ailee Reed won mutton bustin’.
Friday’s winners were Junior Chino in bareback riding, Torri Moss in ladies’ barrel racing, Will Rogers in bull riding, and Manuel Parra and Aron Gutierrez in team roping. Aiden Marquez and Athena Sandoval tied in mutton bustin’.
On Saturday, Jacob Etsitty won bareback riding and Amee Redfeather won barrel racing. Melson Casamero and Julius Begay tied in bull riding, Dalton Chavez and Cameron Church won team roping, and Stenson Yazzie won mutton bustin’.
The City of Deming and Midpoint Equine thanked the competitors, vendors and community members who took part in the weekend.
