DEMING – Luna County officials are asking residents to help keep the community clean after another case of illegal dumping was discovered in the county.
According to a public service announcement issued Monday, county officials documented illegal dumping on Stirrup Road Southeast and are reminding residents to properly dispose of trash at authorized disposal facilities.
County leaders say illegal dumping creates environmental concerns, impacts neighboring properties and increases cleanup costs for taxpayers.
Luna County encourages residents to use designated convenience stations and disposal facilities rather than leaving waste along county roads or in open areas.
County-operated convenience stations are located at Cookes Peak Convenience Station, 80 Hatch Highway Northwest, and Sunshine Convenience Station, 895 Sunshine Road Southwest. Officials noted that the Sunshine facility is temporarily closed for upgrades.
Residents may also use the Deming-Luna County Solid Waste Transfer Station, located at 5470 Highway 549 Southeast.
County officials say preventing illegal dumping requires cooperation from the entire community and are encouraging residents to dispose of waste responsibly to help keep Luna County clean and safe.
