SILVER CITY\/DEMING<\/strong> \u2013 Nursing students from Western New Mexico University recently worked with students from the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and Florida Gulf Coast University during a special online healthcare training event.<\/p>\n

The two-day program allowed students from different healthcare fields to work together as a team while dealing with difficult medical and ethical situations. The virtual training placed students in realistic hospital scenarios similar to those found in emergency rooms and intensive care units.<\/p>\n

Students worked through several patient cases, including a pregnant woman with a serious infection, a patient recovering from cardiac arrest, and a situation where limited hospital resources had to be shared during a healthcare emergency.<\/p>\n

WNMU nursing students focused on patient care, family support, and patient rights while working alongside medical and respiratory therapy students. The training emphasized teamwork, communication, and making difficult decisions in challenging healthcare situations.<\/p>\n

WNMU Lab Simulation Coordinator Lorenzo Saenz said the program gave students valuable experience in working together as healthcare professionals and showed the importance of teamwork when handling complex patient cases.<\/p>\n

University officials say the successful collaboration demonstrates the growing value of virtual simulation training and may become a permanent part of the WNMU nursing program. The goal is to help prepare future healthcare workers for the challenges they will face in hospitals and medical facilities.<\/p>\n
