DEMING \u2013 The Western New Mexico University Board of Regents has approved a series of strategic initiatives designed to strengthen campus infrastructure, expand renewable energy efforts, and support student leadership as the university prepares for a change in leadership.<\/p>\n
During Thursday’s regular meeting, regents unanimously approved the university’s Five-Year Capital Outlay Plan and Infrastructure and Capital Improvement Projects list. University officials said the plans establish priorities for future campus improvements while positioning WNMU to seek state funding during the next legislative session.<\/p>\n
The board also approved a Student Solar Project, an initiative led by students that will expand renewable energy on campus while providing educational opportunities in sustainability.<\/p>\n
Interim President Christopher Maples updated regents on the university’s trademark application for the award-winning Mariachi Plata ensemble, a move intended to protect the group’s name and future commercial and performance rights.<\/p>\n
Regents thanked Maples for his leadership during the transition and expressed confidence in incoming President Jose E. Coll, who officially assumes the presidency on July 1.<\/p>\n
The board also honored longtime Facilities Department employee Tim Perez with Staff Emeritus status in recognition of his decades of service to the university.<\/p>\n
Additional actions included approving a revised Student Regent Scholarship resolution to better support student representatives, reviewing plans for internal audit services, and approving the routine disposal of surplus university property.<\/p>\n
The next meeting of the WNMU Board of Regents will be announced later this summer as preparations continue for the fall semester.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
