DEMING \u2013 Deming Public Schools has named Veronica Lozano as the new principal of My Little School PreK and the district\u2019s PreK Program Coordinator.<\/p>\n
Lozano brings 22 years of experience in education, including early childhood instruction, teacher development, program leadership and PreK compliance.<\/p>\n
Lozano began her career with Deming Public Schools at Bell Elementary School and later served at Memorial Elementary School, where she taught kindergarten and first grade. Since 2023, she has served as a Teacher on Special Assignment for My Little School, New Mexico PreK and Early New Mexico PreK. In that position, she has assisted with administrative duties, supported teachers and educational assistants, planned professional development and observed and evaluated district PreK staff.<\/p>\n
A Deming High School graduate, Lozano said an education course she took while in high school gave her the opportunity to work in elementary classrooms and inspired her to pursue a career in early childhood education.<\/p>\n
She earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in early childhood education from New Mexico State University, a master\u2019s degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in reading instruction from the University of Phoenix and an administrative certificate from Western New Mexico University.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy vision is to ensure every child is socially, emotionally and academically prepared for a successful transition to kindergarten,\u201d Lozano said. \u201cI believe every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment where they feel valued, encouraged and excited to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lozano said the PreK program will continue to emphasize purposeful, play-based experiences, language-rich instruction and meaningful relationships designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, problem-solving and communication.<\/p>\n
Amber Swinney, the retiring My Little School principal and PreK Program Coordinator, said Lozano brings extensive early childhood experience and a strong understanding of PreK learning expectations.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe is highly organized and works diligently to build relationships with students, staff and parents while ensuring all PreK programs remain compliant,\u201d Swinney said.<\/p>\n
Lozano will succeed Swinney, who is retiring from Deming Public Schools at the end of August after 25 years of service.<\/p>\n
The district recognized Swinney for her years of dedication to Deming\u2019s youngest students, their families and district staff. Following her retirement, Swinney plans to travel and begin a new career with Deming Coca-Cola.
