DEMING \u2013 The City of Deming will hold a community information meeting Thursday, August 27, concerning the proposed renewal and modification of the Butterfield Trail Regional Landfill\u2019s state solid-waste permit.<\/p>\n

The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Deming City Council Chambers at Deming City Hall, 1275 E. Pine Street.<\/p>\n

The city is requesting that the New Mexico Environment Department renew the landfill\u2019s existing solid-waste facility permit for another 20 years.<\/p>\n

The Butterfield Trail Regional Landfill currently accepts municipal solid waste, construction and demolition debris, petroleum-contaminated soil, sludge, industrial solid waste and animal-processing waste.<\/p>\n

The proposed permit modification would allow vertical and lateral expansion of the existing landfill. The project would add Phases 2 and 3, covering approximately 54.6 additional acres, and provide approximately 54 feet of additional vertical waste capacity in Units 2 through 6.<\/p>\n

According to the New Mexico Environment Department, the landfill site encompasses approximately 318 acres and is located about 15 miles west of Deming and one-half mile north of Interstate 10.<\/p>\n

Members of the public are encouraged to attend, ask questions and provide comments. Written comments may also be submitted during the meeting or by mail.<\/p>\n
