DEMING – Authorities in Las Cruces are searching for a suspect following an attempted kidnapping near the New Mexico State University campus, raising awareness about personal safety for residents across the region, including those in Deming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a Campus Safety Alert issued by New Mexico State University, the incident occurred Tuesday night around 11:15 p.m. near Arrowhead Drive and Sam Steel Way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say a man described as a white or Hispanic male with long, dark, wavy hair and facial hair attempted to pull a woman into his vehicle while she was jogging in the area. The woman was able to break free, and the suspect fled in a grey sedan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NMSU Police Department is increasing patrols in response and is asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials are also reminding the public to remain alert, particularly during nighttime hours, and to be aware of surroundings when walking or exercising alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
