Contractors will place a 10-foot width restriction in the area, and overnight lane closures will remain in effect until the work is completed. The project is expected to wrap up by May.

Additional bridge repairs will take place between mile markers 102 and 105 along Interstate 10 in the Deming and Akela areas. Crews will start at mile marker 102 in the westbound driving lane before shifting to the passing lane as needed. One lane will remain open at all times during daytime operations. Once work is completed at that location, crews will move to mile marker 105 in the eastbound lane. That project is also expected to be completed by May.

Another bridge repair project is scheduled to begin April 22 near Road Forks at mile marker 5 on Interstate 10. During the work, westbound traffic on I-10 will not be able to cross over to access New Mexico Highway 80 southbound. Northbound traffic on Highway 80 will be able to turn right onto I-10 eastbound, but left turns onto I-10 westbound will not be permitted. Overnight lane closures will be in place during the project.

In addition to bridge repairs, the New Mexico Department of Transportation has begun chip seal operations on several roadways in the Deming area. Drivers can expect flagging crews, pilot vehicles and temporary stops during the work, which is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Roadways scheduled for chip sealing include State Park Road 1007 near Pancho Villa State Park, various Interstate 10 frontage roads in the Gage and Akela areas, New Mexico Highway 418 along the Old Lordsburg Highway, and New Mexico Highway 377 in the Pecan Park area.

Transportation officials remind drivers that conditions in construction zones can change quickly.
