DEMING – Motorists in Deming, Columbus and other parts of Luna County can expect continued road work and traffic control this week as the New Mexico Department of Transportation moves forward with striping, fog sealing and chip seal operations.<\/p>\n

The resurfacing project on Pine Street has been completed from mile marker 0 to mile marker 4.2 in Deming. Intermountain Slurry Seal Inc., the contractor for the project, is expected to begin striping as soon as crews are available.<\/p>\n

Drivers should watch for slow-moving traffic and possible lane closures while the striping work is underway.<\/p>\n

NMDOT maintainers also have completed fog sealing operations on NM 9 from the Animas area to the Do\u00f1a Ana\/Luna County line, from mile marker 86 to mile marker 110 near Columbus. That roadway is also scheduled for striping.<\/p>\n

In addition, NMDOT has begun chip seal operations on several roadways in the Deming area of Luna County. During the work, drivers can expect flagging personnel, pilot vehicles and temporary stops. Brooming will take place during and after the sealing process, and loose gravel may remain on the roadway for several days after treatment.<\/p>\n

Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Center striping will not be present in active work zones until the projects are completed.<\/p>\n

Roadways scheduled for chip sealing include State Park 1007 at Pancho Villa State Park, various I-10 frontage roads in the Gage area, NM 418 from milepost 0 to 14.1 on Old Lordsburg Highway, NM 377 from milepost 0 to 1.8 near Pecan Park, and various I-10 frontage roads in the Akela area.<\/p>\n

The traffic report covers the week of May 24 through May 31, 2026.<\/p>\n

In all construction zones, motorists are asked to reduce speed, obey posted signs and use extreme caution around heavy equipment and construction personnel. Conditions may change without notice, and double fines for speeding in work zones may be in effect.<\/p>\n
