DEMING – Drivers traveling throughout Luna County should plan for periodic delays as the New Mexico Department of Transportation continues chip seal operations on several roadways through the week of July 19 through July 26.
Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. During construction, motorists can expect flagging crews, pilot vehicles, temporary traffic stops, and reduced speeds in active work zones. Loose gravel may remain on treated roads for several days, and center striping will not be replaced until work is completed.
Roadways scheduled for chip seal improvements include Pancho Villa State Park Road, Interstate 10 frontage roads in the Gage area, Baker Road, Old Lordsburg Highway (NM 418), Pecan Park (NM 377), Stirrup Road leading to Rockhound State Park, Spring Canyon Road (NM 198), and Interstate 10 frontage roads in the Akela area.
In addition, work continues near the Columbus Port of Entry at the intersection of NM 11 and El Paso Avenue. Contractors are completing guardrail installation following paving operations. Drivers should be prepared for possible lane closures, flagging operations, and reduced speed limits in the area. Construction is expected to continue through the fall.
Motorists are encouraged to slow down, watch for workers and heavy equipment, obey all traffic control devices, and allow extra travel time when driving through construction zones.
