Deming Couple Sentenced in Child Abuse Case Involving Six-Year-Old

DEMING – A six-year-old girl was found locked in an outdoor metal shed on a rural Luna County property in June 2025. More than a year later, her mother and stepfather have been sentenced in the child abuse case.

A Luna County sheriff’s deputy went to the property near Lewis Flats and Pojoaque roads on June 20, 2025, after receiving a report about the child. The deputy heard her calling from the shed, which had no electricity or running water. Investigators determined she had been inside for more than 24 hours. She had visible bruises and a swollen eye and was taken to Mimbres Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Deputies arrested the girl’s stepfather, Bruce Anglin, and her mother, Samantha Anglin. The six-year-old and a two-year-old child were placed in state protective custody.

Bruce Anglin admitted to locking the girl in the shed as punishment and pleaded guilty to six charges, including two counts of child abuse. He was sentenced to six years in prison.

Samantha Anglin pleaded guilty to one child abuse charge. She was sentenced to three years in prison, but that sentence was suspended, and she was placed on supervised probation. She also relinquished her parental rights to the children.
