DEMING – The Deming-Luna County Chamber of Commerce has introduced Melissa “Mel” Ochoa as its new executive director, bringing experience in business management, customer service and community relations to the organization.
Ochoa, a Deming native, said she is excited to return to her roots and help strengthen relationships among local businesses and community members.
Born and raised in Deming, Ochoa lived in the community until she was 25. After spending 14 years away, she returned in 2018 to raise her two children, now ages 22 and 18, closer to family and friends.
She is also a graduate of Deming High School.
Throughout her professional career, Ochoa has gained extensive management experience in the hospitality industry, including positions in Yuma, Arizona; San Antonio, Texas; and several New Mexico communities, including Las Cruces, Roswell, Silver City and Deming.
Her professional background includes sales, door-to-door sales, marketing, customer service and team leadership.
Ochoa said those experiences helped her develop a passion for building relationships, supporting businesses, increasing revenue and creating lasting community connections.
As executive director, Ochoa said one of her priorities will be reconnecting with familiar faces while introducing herself to business owners and community members she has not yet had the opportunity to meet.
She emphasized the importance of collaboration, strong relationships and community involvement in helping local businesses and the Chamber succeed.
Ochoa also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve Deming and Luna County, saying she is honored to be part of an organization dedicated to supporting local businesses and strengthening the community.
She encouraged residents and business owners to contact her directly, emphasizing that her door is always open and that she is eager to listen, connect and work alongside the community.
The Chamber’s message accompanying her introduction emphasizes supporting local businesses and building a stronger community under the theme “Local Roots, Stronger Together.”
Residents and business owners interested in contacting Ochoa or learning more about the Chamber may call 575-567-3928 or visit the Chamber of Commerce office.
