DEMING – Desert Oasis supports individuals working to rebuild their lives after incarceration through recovery, support services and community-based resources.
The organization hosted its Night of Remembrance and Renewal Friday evening in Deming. One of the evening’s highlights came when New Mexico State Representative Jennifer Jones announced a $30,000 contribution to Desert Oasis.
Jones told attendees the funding would come through her Government Results and Opportunity, or GRO, allocation. State legislative records show Jones was allocated $360,000 in community funding for projects and causes serving Luna and Hidalgo counties. The $30,000 commitment represents a significant investment in the continued growth and operation of Desert Oasis and its services to the community.
The event brought together community members, elected officials, law enforcement representatives, business leaders and supporters for an evening focused on hope, recovery and transformation.
Attendees had an opportunity to learn more about the organization’s mission, hear stories of perseverance and renewal, and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges facing individuals seeking a fresh start.
Among the featured speakers were Luna County Agent Lee Cook, Sixth Judicial District Attorney Norm Wheeler, Luna County Magistrate Judge Scott Chandler, Representative Jones, Luna County Commissioner District 3 Christie Ann Harvey, Danielle Rodriguez, Nurse Practitioner, Owner of Beautify MedSpa and Medical Director of Sano Medical + Skin, and Desert Oasis Chief Executive Officer and Founder Lidia V. Chavira, LMSW, LADAC, CPS, ACS.
Throughout the evening, speakers discussed the importance of second chances, recovery, personal responsibility and community support. Several speakers emphasized that successful recovery and reintegration often depend on strong partnerships between individuals, families, service providers, businesses, law enforcement and local government.
Desert Oasis provides recovery support, peer support, employment assistance and other resources designed to help individuals overcome barriers and build productive futures.
Chavira thanked attendees, donors and community supporters for believing in the organization’s mission.
“Last night was proof that dreams don’t belong to one person—they belong to everyone willing to believe in them,” Chavira said. “What started as an idea became a room full of hope, support, love, and shared purpose. Every conversation, every donation, every smile reminded us that when a community comes together, incredible things happen.
“My heart is full. Thank you for believing in the vision, in each other, and in the possibility of transformation.”
The Night of Remembrance and Renewal highlighted the growing network of support available in Luna County and showcased the collaborative efforts of community leaders, public officials, businesses and residents working together to create opportunities for lasting change.
