Gila National Forest Reminds Visitors About Camp Stove Safety Ahead of National Trails Day

SILVER CITY – With National Trails Day coming up Saturday, June 6th, the Gila National Forest is reminding visitors to use caution when cooking in the backcountry.

Forest officials say campers should clear at least one to two feet around a camp stove before using it. The safety step can help reduce the risk of accidentally starting a wildfire.

The Gila National Forest includes more than 1,800 miles of trails, including about 250 miles of the Continental Divide Trail.

Visitors are encouraged to get outside and enjoy the forest, but to do so safely and responsibly.
