DEMING – Employees with the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s District One are taking part in specialized training aimed at strengthening bridge inspection and safety skills.

The two-week Introduction to Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course brings together NMDOT employees from across New Mexico for instruction focused on inspecting, maintaining and protecting the state’s bridges.

The training is being led by instructors from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, who traveled to New Mexico to share their experience and expertise with NMDOT personnel.

A representative from New Mexico State University is also participating in the training.

NMDOT officials said programs like this provide employees with opportunities to develop the technical skills necessary to identify potential problems and help ensure bridges remain safe for the traveling public.

The training entered its second week as NMDOT District One highlighted the program and thanked the visiting Pennsylvania instructors for their participation.
