DEMING – A late-night fire damaged a residence in the 1100 block of East Elm Street on Tuesday, June 9.
According to the Deming Police Department, officers and the Deming Fire Department responded to the reported structure fire at approximately 11:20 p.m. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to a bathroom inside the home.
The residents were not at home when the fire occurred, and no injuries were reported.
However, a small dog and four puppies were found deceased inside the residence.
Deming Police Chief Sergio Lara said the case has been turned over to the New Mexico State Fire Marshal’s Office for further investigation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
