DEMING – A major roadway improvement project is set to begin later this week along one of Deming’s primary traffic corridors, with nighttime paving operations scheduled to start Sunday evening on Pine Street.
According to information released by the New Mexico Department of Transportation, the $900,000 resurfacing project will take place on Business Loop 22, commonly known as Pine Street, beginning Sunday night, April 26. Work is expected to continue nightly for approximately 25 days, with crews operating from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The project will cover a stretch of Pine Street from milepost 0 to milepost 4.2. During construction hours, motorists should expect single-lane closures in both eastbound and westbound directions as paving crews complete the resurfacing work.
Residents and businesses located along Pine Street may notice increased noise during overnight operations, although officials say contractors will work to minimize disruptions as much as possible. Intermountain Slurry Seal Inc. has been contracted to complete the project.
Drivers traveling through the area are encouraged to plan ahead for possible delays, reduce speed in work zones, obey posted traffic control signs, and remain alert for construction workers and equipment.
Transportation officials say the resurfacing effort represents a significant investment in the community’s infrastructure and is part of ongoing work to improve roadway safety and driving conditions throughout the region.
