NMDOT Repairs I-10 Bridge Barrier at Akela Exit

AKELA, N.M. – New Mexico Department of Transportation District One crews have completed repairs to a concrete bridge wall barrier along Interstate 10 at the Akela exit.

NMDOT District One Public Information Officer Ami Evans told Deming News the bridge is located on Interstate 10 at the 102 Akela Exit.

According to NMDOT, the barrier was damaged during a March 10 incident. Crews later removed the damaged concrete section, built new forms, and placed fresh concrete to restore the barrier wall.

NMDOT traffic reports identify the work as part of an I-10 bridge deck repair project from mile marker 102 to mile marker 105 in the Deming and Akela area. The project was listed under NMDOT project number HW2M700118, with Hasse Contracting Co. listed as the contractor.

Traffic reports showed the work beginning near mile marker 102, with lane closures used as needed while repairs were underway. At least one lane remained open to traffic during the project.

NMDOT said the repair work was completed to restore the barrier safely and efficiently.

Motorists traveling through the Akela area are reminded to slow down, watch for workers and equipment, and use caution in construction and maintenance zones.
