DEMING – Volunteers are needed to help judge and assist in the judging booth during the Luna County Old West Heritage Days BBQ competition, which begins today as part of the weekend celebration in Deming.
The barbecue competition is part of the Luna County Old West Heritage Days Festival, a three-day event scheduled for May 15 through May 17 at the Southwest New Mexico State Fairgrounds and other Starmax-area locations. The festival includes rodeo events, live music, food vendors, exhibits, family activities and a barbecue cook-off competition connected with the Kansas City Barbeque Society.
Organizers are looking for volunteers willing to help with the judging process and assist inside the judging booth during the barbecue competition. The event brings barbecue teams and pitmasters together for a professional-style cook-off, with scoring and judging playing an important role in keeping the competition organized and fair.
Anyone interested in volunteering may email Bryan Reedy at breedy@lunacounty.gov.
The Luna County Old West Heritage Days Festival is designed to celebrate the region’s western, ranching and community heritage, while offering a full weekend of activities for residents and visitors. The event also features the New Mexico State BBQ Cook-Off as part of the festival lineup.
