DEMING – Deming Police Chief Sergio Lara announced that the City of Deming has adopted Ordinance No. 1340, a new measure aimed at addressing vacant buildings, damaged signs, junked vehicles and other conditions that can contribute to blight in the community.
According to Lara, the ordinance is intended to help keep Deming safe, clean and attractive for residents, businesses and visitors. The ordinance requires vacant buildings to be secured and properly maintained, and property owners must register vacant buildings within 30 days of vacancy.
The ordinance also includes guidelines for removing or repairing abandoned or damaged signs, along with fencing and screening requirements for certain vehicle storage and business operations that are visible from public areas.
Lara said the city’s Codes Team will be distributing updated ordinance information to local businesses in the coming business days so owners and operators can review the new requirements and prepare for compliance. City officials said there will be compliance periods for existing violations, but additional action may be taken if concerns are not corrected after the deadline.
Property owners and business operators are encouraged to review the new requirements and take any necessary steps as soon as possible.
