DEMING – Drivers in Deming can expect to see more police officers on the road this summer as the Deming Police Department launches an enhanced traffic enforcement campaign aimed at improving roadway safety.
The department is partnering with the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s Traffic Safety Division to conduct high-visibility enforcement operations throughout the summer months. Officers will patrol high-traffic areas and enforce both moving and equipment violations in an effort to encourage safer driving habits.
Police say officers will be watching for speeding, reckless driving, distracted driving, including texting and cell phone use, failure to obey traffic signs and signals, seat belt and child restraint violations, and equipment issues such as broken headlights or expired vehicle registration.
Motorists should expect an increased police presence as officers work to ensure compliance with state and local traffic laws. The department says the campaign is designed to improve safety for everyone traveling on Deming’s streets and highways.
The enforcement effort is funded through federal grants administered by the New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division. Deming Police are encouraging everyone to drive responsibly, stay alert, and follow all traffic laws to help make this a safe summer.
