DEMING – Deming will host its first Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 22 and 23, during Great American Duck Race weekend.
The tournament is scheduled for 855 S. Platinum Ave. The published Gus Macker brackets list 116 teams competing in 15 age, gender and skill divisions, from boys ages 6 to 10 through adult competition and a Top Men’s division.
Gus Macker rules require four players on each team, meaning the tournament is expected to include 464 registered players.
The official event website lists a $180 team entry fee. Player registration is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. Organizers are asking all players to bring identification.
Published brackets show games beginning as early as 9 a.m. Saturday, with additional competition scheduled Sunday.
The Deming-Luna County Chamber of Commerce is organizing the event, which brings the nationally known Gus Macker tournament series to Deming for the first time.
